Opera on Wheels: How tiivii Brought Verdi’s Magic to the Streets of Sweden

Bringing Opera to New Audiences

Summer is the season of concerts and festivals, when culture takes center stage in squares, parks, and open-air venues around the world. At tiivii, we also joined the movement with a very special project: bringing Verdi’s opera Falstaff to unconventional spaces in Sweden, showing how technology can expand access to the arts like never before.

Opera on a Lorry: A Traveling Stage in Skåne

The initiative, called “Opera on a Lorry,” toured 18 towns across the Skåne region of Sweden with a creative one-hour version of Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff. Streets, squares, and parks became improvised stages, bringing opera closer to diverse audiences in informal, accessible settings.

But the project didn’t stop there. The performances were also streamed live to 190 nursing homes across the region—bringing music and joy directly to people who might otherwise not be able to attend. This simple but powerful idea democratized access to culture and made opera part of daily life for many.

Technology and Culture Working Hand in Hand

This pioneering project is part of the Kalaudiscope initiative, a collaboration between four partners exploring how digital technology can enhance the performing arts before, during, and after live shows:

  • 🎭 Malmö Opera – bringing artistic direction and performance.
  • 📷 Axis Communications – providing cutting-edge camera technology.
  • 🎓 Lund University – researching the impact of cultural digitalization.
  • 🚀 Cinfo (tiivii) – delivering automated and remote production.

Together, these partners proved that culture can drive innovation, while technology can break barriers and open new doors to artistic experiences.

tiivii’s Role: 100% Mobile Streaming

At the heart of this project was tiivii, enabling seamless, professional broadcasting without costly on-site installations:

  • Automated production to track and capture performances.
  • ✅ A cloud-based production desk for professional remote directing.
  • ✅ A fully mobile setup, powered by 5G and Axis cameras, to stream from new locations every day.

The result was a traveling opera that adapted to different spaces daily, while always maintaining high-quality, stable streaming.

A Glimpse Into the Future of the Performing Arts

The most inspiring part of this project goes beyond the performances themselves. It represents a vision of the future—where culture, technology, and academia join forces to transform the way we experience the arts.

At tiivii, we believe culture is not only to be enjoyed—it also drives technological innovation. Projects like Opera on a Lorry prove that digital tools can make cultural experiences accessible to everyone, anywhere.
